Without Allen Toussaint's herculean musical contributions, New Orleans' crucial musical heritage would be a footnote confined to '50s Rock & Roll. As a producer, songwriter and artist, Toussaint defined the seminal NOLA funk genre, giving hits not only to favorite sons like Ernie K. Doe and Lee Dorsey, but to Labelle, Robert Palmer, Rod Stewart, and many others.

The illuminating new documentary film directed by Andrew Slater explores the beginnings of the Laurel Canyon music scene through the stories of those who lived it, and the artists who carry its influence to this day. The soundtrack celebrates the music of that era, and features new studio recordings of timeless songs by the Byrds, the Mamas & the Papas, and more, as interpreted by artists from the film including Jakob Dylan, Fiona Apple, Beck, and more.

The folk duo Pasquale and Clara Sciascia immigrated to the U.S. from the Abruzzo region of Italy, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1927 to 1933 they recorded 44 songs for the Victor, Columbia, and Brunswick record companies. The Sciascias were the first to record several Italian and Abruzzese folk songs, fourteen of which are reissued here for the first time in 90 years.
