(1919-2016) Isabel Howe Ziegler. Came to Espanola in 1946 with her husband Sam, a doctor who opened a hospital there. Isabel became a civic leader, helped start a library, was elected Woman of the Year by the Espanola Valley Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of that organization, then became President In 1998, Isabel and Sam Ziegler were named Living Treasures by the City of Santa Fe. Her memoirs, Rio Grande Sand in Your Shoes, compiled with the help of her son Norman Ziegler, relate her experiences with many area notables including family friend Georgia O'Keeffe.
