Michael E. Reynolds. Northern New Mexico. Architect who developed the "Earthship Biotecture" school of home construction, using repurposed/recycled materials and stressing resource efficiency. AKA: Gene Rhodes. (1869-1934) Moved to the area of Alamogordo in 1881 at the age of 12, became an accomplished horseman and stonemason. Friend to rancher Oliver Lee. Wrote many novels and stories set in southern New Mexico. Nicknamed "the Cowboy Chronicler", his stories in national publications including The Saturday Evening Post were influential in creating popular images of cowboy and ranch life. Lived most of his life in New Mexico, in various locations around the state. Credited with applying the phrase "The Land of Enchantment" as referring to New Mexico, using the term in a 1911 work and again in 1914. The Alamogordo Public Library has a room named in his honor. Buried at the top of Rhodes Pass, named for him after his description of it in the novel Stepsons of Light (1921). Biography, by his wife May Davison Rhodes: The Hired Man on Horseback (1938).

(1932-2018) Santa Fe. Poet, writer, teacher, and editor; member of the Live Poets Society. Attended UNM. Worked for the Commission on Higher Education. Served as Director of the NM Natural History Museum; served as Director of the NM Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Author of six collections of his poetry including Lion Dreaming.

(1890-1968) Novelist, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Lived in Albuquerque 1928-33, subsequently rotating between there, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Wrote short stories on the Southwest, some of them collected in Early Americana, and the novel The Sea of Grass about conflicts between New Mexico ranchers and farmers; a film based upon the book was filmed in New Mexico on the Plains of San Agustin near Magdalena.

Longtime writer for the Farmington Daily News with a news column, "My Window on the Mesa". Author of several poetry collections including the titular column and The Four Corners Country : a guide book in verse.

Has taught at Dona Ana Community College in Las Cruces. Editor, screenwriter. Author of several books in the "Vampire for Hire" series.

AKA: Rollie Lynn Riggs. (1899-1954) Santa Fe. Poet, playwright, screenwriter. Came to Santa Fe in 1923 pursuing a tuberculosis cure; spent several years in New Mexico after that then divided his time between Santa Fe and various eastern cities as well as Los Angeles, often teaching in colleges. Active in the Santa Fe and Taos artist's colonies. His work Green Grow The Lilacs was adapted into the musical Oklahoma! His home in Santa Fe is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Author of several works on New Mexico including Illustrated New Mexico and Aztlan: The History, Resources, and Attractions of New Mexico.

Graduate of New Mexico State University; graduate degree from NMSU, was the first Certified Hotel Administrator in the state of New Mexico. (1892-1989) Albuquerque. Composer, ethnomusicologist, arts administrator, and attorney. Helped establish the University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Professor at UNM and credited with growing the Music Department there. Noted collector/recorder of New Mexico folk music, which collection now comprises the John Donald Robb Archives at UNM. Author of several collections of folks songs including Cancionero: songs of laughter and faith in New Mexico and Hispanic Folk Songs of New Mexico.

(1897-1966) Frank Harold Hanna Roberts. Archaeologist schooled in Las Vegas; went on to work at Pueblo Bonito and with the Bureau of American Ethnology, where he served as its last Director. Did extensive work at Chaco Canyon and on the Folsom culture. Honorary degree from UNM. Author of numerous papers on Southwestern archaeology, and the book History and Civics of New Mexico.
