- Zimmerman, James Fulton(1887-1944) Seventh president of the University of New Mexico; served 1927-1944. Dedicated to expansion of the facilities; Zimmerman Field and Zimmerman Library named for him. Worked closely with his executive assistant Tom Popejoy who became President in 1949. Invited Edgar Lee Hewett to develop a school of anthropology at UNM.
