Get Started

How to download & stream eVideos, eMusic, eAudiobooks, eComics, and eBooks from hoopla.

1. Register for a hoopla account by visiting hoopladigital.com from your PC, or by using the mobile app on your iOS or Android device. You will need to provide an e-mail address, create a password, and have your library account information ready.

2. Easily browse titles on your computer or mobile device by clicking Browse All on the format (Music, Movies, Audiobooks, eBooks, Comics, and Television) you would like to browse further on. You can also search for a specific title by clicking on the Search box or magnifying glass and typing in your title(s)/keyword.

3. To borrow a title, click on the title and then click the Borrow button. Your borrowed titles can be played right after borrowing, and found under the My Titles menu for viewing/listening.

4. Borrowed titles will be automatically returned when your lending period is over. There are no holds, wait lists, or late fees for any of hoopla's content. 

5. The hoopla app works on the majority of Android devices that are running 4.1x & up, along with iOS devices that are running iOS 8 & up. We always recommend updating the operating system on the device to the latest version, for the best possible experience.

When does the monthly(borrow) period end? (Rev. 9/2016)

The monthly borrow limit resets at 12:01 am on the first day of the new month.

I am unable to register for a hoopla account, can you help? (Rev. 9/2016)

The Public Library requires an active Card Number and a PIN when registering for hoopla. If you need assistance with your PIN, please contact the library. You may have an expired card, fines, or just might need to reset your PIN number.

How many times can a music album be borrowed? (Rev. 9/2016)

Due to record label restrictions, hoopla allows users to borrow an album twice in a 30-day period.

How do I borrow and play titles? (Rev. 9/2016)

You can borrow titles though the hoopla digital mobile app or the website. Once you select a title you can click on the Borrow button on the title details page. Once a title is borrowed, it will be added, and able to access by clicking My hoopla at the top, then click currently borrowed. From there, you can play the title on your mobile device or PC/Mac on the PC/Mac. On the mobile device the will be located under "My Titles" in the mobile app.

Are titles downloaded onto my computer? (Rev. 9/2016)

All titles are available for streaming using hoopladigital.com on a PC/Mac. Borrowed titles are for streaming and a temporary download on iOS and Android devices.

Can a title be returned before the lending period expires? (Rev. 9/2016)

You can return the title before the lending period has expired by clicking the return now button located at the bottom of the title on the title information page. Please note that returning a title early does not give you additional borrows for that month.

How do I add titles to my list of favorites? (Rev. 9/2016)

When logged in and viewing a title you may save the title by clicking the heart icon button in the upper right of the title. To view titles that you have saved as Favorites, click on "My hoopla" at the top, then scroll down to favorites.

How do I view my borrowing history? (Rev. 9/2016)

Once you have borrowed and returned a title, you can view your history by clicking on "My hoopla" at the top, then click on "History" for a full list of previously borrowed material.

Does video content have closed captions? (Rev. 9/2016)

Yes, hoopla supports closed captioning of video content where available and/or required. Titles that have closed captions have a block CC logo on their title information page. We continue to work with content providers to expand the availability of closed captioning.

What is Kids Mode?

hoopla Kids Mode is a multi-format, digital media experience designed especially for kids (up to age 12). All of the content – movies, TV shows, music, audiobooks, eBooks, and comics – has been curated and brought together in this one family-friendly place.

How do I activate Kids Mode?

hoopla Kids Mode is very simple to activate. Once you are logged into your account, just go into your settings in the upper right. Then click/tap on the Kids Mode toggle switch, and you're all set. Click here for a guide on how to activate Kids Mode.

Where can I find the hoopla mobile app? (Rev. 9/2016)

The hoopla digital mobile app can be found in the Google Play store on your Android device, and the Amazon Appstore on your Kindle Fire HDX tablet and other select kindles. Search for "hoopla digital" to find and download the app.

Where is the download button located on borrowed content? (Rev. 9/2016)

Where can I download the Kindle Fire HD(2015) and the HDX app? (Rev. 9/2016)

Please go to the Amazon Appstore on your Kindle Fire HD or HDX tablet and search for "hoopla digital." You can then download the app from the app store.

How can I hide or delete my history? (Rev. 9/2016)

On hoopla you can hide your entire history, or delete select titles. Click here for a guide on how to do this.

Says my library card is expired, but it isn't, what can I do? (Rev 9/2016)

If you have reached out to the  library, and the library card isn't expired the only other thing it could be is your PIN is invalid. To get this correct you will need to contact a library branch to confirm your PIN, then click here to see how to update it on hoopla.

How can I change my password, and other account settings on hoopla? (Rev 9/2016)

I have an SD card, can I download to that? (Rev. 9/2016)

All hoopla digital downloads are stored in the hoopla digital app, and can't be moved to an SD card on the device. We always recommend having plenty of free space on your device's main memory.

How can I force close and re-open the app? (Rev. 9/2016)

Many issues you might be facing with the hoopla mobile app can be solved by force closing and re-opening the app. This essentially restarts your connection to hoopla. Here are some steps on how to force close the mobile app:

     1. Double tap your iOS device’s home button and find the hoopla app card.
     2. Swipe the app upwards and off the screen to close the app.
     3. Tap on app icon again to re-open.

How do I download content to my iOS device? (Rev. 9/2016)

After borrowing a title, tap the "Download this title" option right below the play button. Once it is fully downloaded you can play the title without an internet connection.

What iOS versions are supported with hoopla. (Rev. 9/2016)

hoopla will run iOS 8 and up, but for the best results it is recommended to use the latest iOS version and hoopla app version.

Can I access content on hoopla using my Chromebook? (Rev. 9/2016)

Yes! While using the latest version of Chrome on your Chromebook, hoopla content is fully accessible. To update Chrome, click on the menu button in the upper right hand corner, and then on "About Google Chrome" to update the browser.

How to get videos to play on my browser? (Rev. 10/2016)

hoopla supports all major browser, which include Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE11 and Safari. 
We always recommend using the latest version of the browser, to ensure you have the best possible user experience. 
     Below you will find a list of plugins need to play video on your browser 

  • Chrome No plug-in is required for videos

  • FireFox 48+ No plug-in is required for Videos

How do I get Audiobooks & Music to work on my browser (Rev. 10/2016)

On your PC/Mac you can enjoy hoopla audio, we do recommend for the best experience to have the latest browser version. Below are the required plug-in for each browser, these will need to be enabled to play audio. 

  • Chrome No plug-in required 
  • Edge Flash is required, and might need enabled in the browser settings 
  • Firefox Flash 22 is required, and might need enabled in the browser settings 
  • IE11 with windows 8.1 No plug-in is required 
  • IE11 with windows 7 & 8 Flash is required, and might need enabled in the browser setting 
  • Safari Flash 22 is required, and might need to be enabled in the browser setting.

What is Silverlight, and what browsers use it? (Rev. 9/2016)

Silverlight is required for the latest browser versions of IE11 & Safari, and is only needed for the videos. When you attempt to play a video it will prompt you to install the plugin.

What internet speed do I need to use hoopla? (Rev. 9/2016)

For the best experience we require at least 2mbps connection, if your internet is below that you will experience videos not starting or the quality will be poor. Please visit www.speedtest.net, for a free way to test your speed.

To access your favorites, just click the "My hoopla" at the top of the screen. The you can click on "Favorites" to be taken to all the favorites you have marked.

To add titles to your favorites on the hoopla digital website, just click on the title you want to add to your favorites and click the heart icon in the upper right. To remove the favorite, just click on the title and then click the heart icon again to remove them.

We currently support Airplay on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation Apple TV devices.

How can I use hoopla on the TV? (Rev. 9/2016)

Interested in watching hoopla Videos on your home television? Hoopla is presently compatible with both Apple TV and Chromecast devices. iOS users that have an Apple TV may simply mirror the content they see on their iOS mobile device to their television. Android users that have Chromecast have the ability to cast hoopla Digital videos to their television using either their PC or IOS/Android mobile device. Those with neither an Apple TV or Chromecast device can simply connect their device to their television using an HDMI adapter.

What is Chromecast? (Rev. 9/2016)

Chromecast is a wireless way to stream hoopla video's to your TV. Chromecast can be used with Android and iOS device's, to transmit the video's to your TV.

How do I setup Chromecast? (Rev. 9/2016)

Setup from Chromecast is very easy, first you need to make sure your Chromecast device, and your Android/iOS device is on the same WIFI network. Second, make sure you are running the latest hoopla digital app. Finally, you will see a little icon in the upper right, click on that to start the cast then click play on the video. If you need additional help, please click here

We support all devices running iOS 9.3.5 and above.

What Apple TV devices does hoopla support?

The hoopla app is available on 4th and 5th gen devices. 
We support AirPlay on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen devices.

Do you support Apple CarPlay?

We currently do not support Apple CarPlay, however we do support Bluetooth playback in most modern automobiles.

What Android devices does hoopla support?

We support most devices running Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) and above.

What Chromecast devices do you support?

We currently support casting from iOS and Android devices to the 1st and 2nd generation Chromecasts.

What is it all About

• Once set up with a Public Library card, hoopla users can borrow up to 5 titles each month. Use the app on your smartphone or supported device to download content and view later (in case you won’t have Wi-Fi on that trip).

• Titles checked out with one device are available from anywhere you log in to use hoopla, whether on the app or via a web browser (IE 8+, Firefox 12+, Safari 5+, Chrome 19+).

• Borrow up to 5 titles each month. Checkout periods vary:

Video lends for 72 hours
Music lends for 7 days
Audiobooks and eBooks lend for 21 days

• Access (view/listen to) borrowed content as often as you want during the checkout period. Return any borrowed title if you're done before the end of the checkout period.
