Hoopla Best Practices: Overview

hoopla Best Practices

The Public Library Albuquerque & Bernalillo County is proud to offer hoopla as one of our many services! Because hoopla is a first come, first served service, our hoopla subscription only accommodates a limited number of borrows per day. hoopla is best for library users who don't mind staying up late or getting up early in order to access the content they want instantly.

Don't forget about the library's DVD collection and book on CD collection, print collections, Freegal Music + for music streaming and downloads, and Libby/Overdrive for eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines!

If you hit the daily budget cap, here are some best practices for using hoopla effectively:

  • If you receive the borrowing cap message on hoopla, you can favorite the item (by pressing the heart icon) and continue to browse the digital collection until the new day starts at midnight. Once the new day starts at midnight, this is when our library daily limit will also restart, and you can try to borrow the titles favorited the day before.

  • The best times to borrow are after midnight, or early in the morning. The borrowing cap is often reached by as early as 7:00 a.m., so the earlier the better.
  • Please note that the library's online catalog will only show hoopla comics, video, music, and BingePasses. hoopla eBooks and eAudiobooks can only be accessed directly through the hoopla website or app.
