Research Requests at Special Collections: Overview

Research Guidelines

  • Please do not use pens or markers when in the library. Pencils are available at the reference desk. You may use a laptop or a tablet device to take notes.
  • Clean, dry hands are best. Gloves are not needed since they may lead to torn pages.
  • Should you want copies of materials, we have a photocopier on site. Taking photographs with a cell phone, tablet, or digital camera is permissible. Tripods and set-ups that might fall over onto materials are not allowed nor are flash devices. There is no charge for taking photographs with such devices. Any images you take are subject to copyright law.
  • Take care to avoid accidental damage to documents. Keeps records flat and on the table, do not bend or fold records. Avoid marking, leaning on, altering, folding, tracing or defacing materials.
  • For the protection of our collection, no food, drink, gum, or anything liquid or edible is allowed in the library. Sealed bottled water is permissible.
  • There may be additional guidelines or procedures for using certain materials or collections.

Use the form below to indicate your research question. If you already know what items you need from our collection, please list them.

  • Please be as specific as possible. Include all pertinent information, such as: complete names, dates and locations.
  • Please allow three business days for us to fulfill research requests.

Research Request at Special Collections Form

All are welcome to conduct research at Special Collection Library. The materials housed in this branch do not circulate, but researchers can access the physical collection in one of our reading rooms.

No appointment is necessary and you do not need a scholarly reason to view the collection.

You will need a valid library card to access collections. Please review the guidelines here in advance of your visit to ensure the best research experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
