In celebration of the American Library Association’s Teen Tech Week (March 3-9, 2019) The Public Library ABQ-BernCo is offering a Book Trailer Contest! Book Trailers are similar to movie trailers, (a.k.a. previews) but they promote books instead of films. Book Trailers are made to encourage people to read a particular book or novel. They usually give an audience a sense of what a book is about without giving away too many details so the audience will want to read the book to find out what happens. A Book Trailer is NOT a book review or a book report.
Any individual Tween or Teen or group of Tweens or Teens entering as a team (4 maximum) ages 11-19. Teens ages 11-17 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian on their entry form. Every team must have at least one member 13 years of age or older at the time of trailer video submission.
A panel of Public Library ABQ-BernCo staff judges will view all entries and select finalists. All finalists’ entries will be shown at the Teen Book Trailer Awards Ceremony at the Downtown Main Library on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 3:00-4:30 pm. Each of the finalists will receive a free book. The top video trailers in four categories will receive a prize. The four prize categories are: 1) Best Trailer created by an Individual Teen, age 13-19; 2) Best Trailer created by an Individual Tween, age 11-12; 3) Best Trailer created by a Team of 2-4 people; and 4) Audience Favorite.
The best trailer created by an individual Teen, age 13-19 will win an Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet. The best trailer created by an individual Tween, age 11-12 will win an Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet. The best trailer created by a team will win a $50 Amazon gift card for each team member. The individual or team that submits the Audience Favorite trailer as decided by an online vote will win a $75 Amazon gift card. All entries will be acknowledged with a certificate, and all finalists will receive a new, free book of their choice.
