Earthworms

Earthworms

Earthworms and other soil citizens do much of the work of soil building. Some gardeners consider the most important role of mulch to be in support of an environment where earthworms thrive.

Earthworms tirelessly work through the soil, processing plant material, opening up drainage channels (it is not unusual to see plant roots following an earthworm burrow), and enriching the soil with their castings. Numerous and active earthworms are a sure sign of healthy soil.

Earthworms can help you transform your kitchen scraps into rich soil amendments.

Earthworms are the gardener's best friend!
