Circulation Guidelines

Wi-Fi Hotspot Program

Use your library card to check out a Hotspot providing you with free, and mobile, internet access! The Public Library Albuquerque and Bernalillo County is very pleased to be working with T-Mobile to offer mobile Hotspots for check-out. 

  • The mobile Hotspots may be checked out at all Public Library locations.
  • Customers must have a valid Public Library card.
  • Hotspots may be checked out by adult cardholders with full access accounts, in good standing.
  • Hotspots can be checked out for 3 weeks.
  • Hotspots are not eligible for renewal.
  • All components (Hotspot, charger with cord, and piece case) must be present upon return for the library to consider the item checked in.
  • Instruction cards are included with the Hotspots.
  • Replacement costs are as follows:
    • $120.00 for complete unit and/or missing hotspot
    • $10.00 for combined Power Adapter / Cable
    • $10.00 for missing Hotspot Case
  • Once a hotspot is 5 days overdue, it will be deactivated and will no longer connect to the internet.
    • If a hotspot has been overdue and deactivated for too long, the hotspot line will automatically be canceled by T-Mobile, and the customer will be responsible for the $120 fee even if the hotspot is later returned.
  • Hotspots may be returned to any branch library
  • Must be returned to a staff member at the Circulation Desk. Do not place in the bookdrop! The device could be damaged.
  • Only use the charging cord that came with the device.
  • Do not leave plugged in once fully charged.
  • Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed, or on a couch.
  • Keep batteries at room temperature.
  • Do not place batteries in direct sunlight or keep them in hot vehicles.

How to connect your device to the T-Mobile Hotspot:

  1. Hotspot does not need to be plugged in to work (but may need to be charged first).
  2. To turn on, push the power button on the bottom of the hotspot for 3 seconds.
  3. If the hotspot does not turn on or the display flashes with a battery symbol, the device will need to be charged.
  4. Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your laptop, tablet, or smart phone.
  5. Wait for the screen on the hotspot to show connection information .
  6. Once you see the above screen view the list of available wireless network on your mobile device.
  7. Select the ABQ Library Hotspot network.
  8. Enter the password provided with the hotspot (abqlibrary).
  9. Your device will display a message indicating it has connected to ABQLibrary Wi-Fi network.
  10. Browse the Internet, stream videos, or whatever!




How much does it cost? 

  • Borrowing and using the device is free! If the device is lost or damaged beyond repair, a $120 fee will be charged to your Library account.

How do I renew it? 

  • Hotspots are not renewable.

What information about my Internet usage, if any, is tracked by the Library or the service provider?

  • Your Internet usage is not tracked by the Library or the service provider.

Can I use the hotspot outside of the U.S.?

  • No, the hotspots only work in the U.S.
