More of the Public Library

Discovery brings you more of the Public Library

Discovery is a fresh new look bringing you a personalized search experience! You can now search the Library’s catalog and electronic resources simultaneously and see current availability information on physical library items and direct links to eResources. Links on the left will open to pages with support for searching and features. Brought to us by EBSCO, the service may also be referred to as Discovery Service, EBSCO Discovery Service and EDS.

Do you want to find full-text articles within your search? Discovery makes your search as easy as the open web, but with better, more in-depth and citable results drawn from premium content. All available with an integrated search of both the physical and electronic items owned and licensed by the Public Library.

Now there’s no need to go to multiple places to find relevant and authoritative information. Get it all right away from the Public Library.

Why is Discovery better?
  • Retrieves items not found in the standard catalog including print books, eBooks, eAudiobooks, books on CD, as well as print periodicals.
  • Search multiple fields like author and publication with one query.
  • Autocomplete feature offers popular terms and suggestions to choose from. This can be useful in coming up with some great search terms for a topic!
  • Search the Public Library website directly from the Discovery Service tabbed box.
  • Click the Website tab above the search box and type in what you’re looking for. Results for library webpages and databases for suggested searching will be returned.
Quick Tips to Try!

  • You can limit a search to print items only – those available on our library shelves – with the filters on the left.
  • Deselect the Public Library Catalog Only in the left "Show More Options" to broaden your search and include more eResources.

  • Limit to Large Print Only, Childrens, or Spanish only!
  • Advanced searching with Limiters and Expanders, as well as AND or NOT for keywords and formats (Boolean searching).
  • Research Starters at the top of search results are fantastic encyclopedia entries that give you instant information about your search.
  • Turn Search History pane ON or OFF using the button below the search box. Even when you click new search, the system remembers your preference.
  • Use the folder to access previously-run searches, add books or articles of of interest, create RSS search alerts, create notes, and save preferences.
