Traveling Trunks: Traveling Trunks

Traveling Trunks

Traveling Trunks are here! These rolling suitcases packed full of hands-on resources are available to teachers, youth group leaders, homeschool teachers, and other residents of New Mexico who are looking for a fun and educational way to immerse students in a moment in history.  The trunks include replicas of artifacts and clothing from that period, books, maps, posters, music, DVDs, games, and a Teacher Resource Manual with instructional tools, such as using primary sources, grading rubrics, and lesson plans.

PROCEDURE FOR CHECKOUT

Procedure for Checkout

1. Reservations/Questions: Trunks are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and some trunk calendars fill up quickly.  We recommend making your reservation early. To make a reservation or to ask questions, email the library at librarygenealogy@cabq.gov or call (505) 768-5131.

2. Loan Period: A trunk can be checked out for two to three weeks using your library card. If the trunk meets the needs of other social studies teachers at your school, please share rather than having to check out again.

3. Responsibility: The teacher checking out the trunk is responsible for the contents and its gentle handling, bearing the responsibility for damaged and/or missing items. However, we do want the students have a great hands-on experience with the contents. There is a list of everything in the trunk. We encourage you to check the trunk before you take it to your school and before you return it to the Library.

4. Pick-up/Return: The teacher is responsible for picking up the trunk and returning it. Some trunks weigh approximately 75 lbs. They do have wheels and a pull strap. However, you must be able to lift it into and out of your vehicle. The approximate dimensions are: 36" L x 19" W x 18" H.  The trunks are picked up and returned to the second floor of Main Library at 501 Copper Ave NW, (505) 768-5131 librarygenealogy@cabq.gov.

We encourage you to be prepared to use the trunk as soon as you check it out so that you get the full benefit of having the trunk before it is due back to the library.
