Supported by close to 550 foundations, and founded in 1956, the Foundation Center is a leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide.  The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. and, increasingly, global grants and grantmakers.  Foundation Center resources connect people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed by operating research, education and training programs designed to advance knowledge of philanthropy at every level.

As a Foundation Center Funding Information Network Partner, Main Library makes available databases, books and training opportunities for our community, including:

  • Online resources include the Foundation Directory Online, Grants to Individuals Online, and Philanthropy In/Sight - which may be searched during open hours at computers in the Genealogy Center on the 2nd floor.
  • A rich array of reference resources published by the Foundation Center is available for in-house use at Main Library, and a number of other branches throughout the system.  Some materials are available for checkout.
  • Programs and training sessions providing strategies for researching grantmakers and philanthropic foundations are featured several times during the year. 
  • Foundation Center resources are free of charge, and available to the public.
